Author, The Call

“Calling is the truth that God calls us to Himself so decisively that everything we are, everything we do, and everything we have is invested with a special dynamism, a direction lived out in response to His summons and service.

“In today’s world our identity is wrapped up in ‘We are what we do.’ Calling means ‘Do what we are.’ We all have a corporate (general) calling, which is our life response to God that we undertake in common with other followers of Christ. But we also have an individual or unique calling. Who has God made you to be? What are your unique gifts, resources, and spheres of influence?

“Cell groups, accountability groups, small group Bible studies, and fellowship groups are crisscrossing America today and that is a positive development. However, there’s a missing element – the individuals in the group don’t have a clear understanding of each other’s callings.

“I challenge you. Learn about each other’s callings so you can inspire and encourage each other to pursue their calling. We all face incredible challenges. Pursuing our calling can be very difficult since we are torn in many directions and have many competing distractions. At any given point we need our brothers and sisters to hold our feet to the fire, remind us, and encourage us.”

What is your unique calling—who has God made you to be? How can you encourage another to pursue his or her calling?
